Life of Jane Allan
Little is known about John and Jane S. Allan and their family. They did not come to Bluff by way of the pioneer Hole-in-the-Rock expedition of 1879-80 (Perkins).
Jane Allan was born in Kioyth, Sterlingham, Scotland, on June 2, 1845. She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormons) and came to Utah in 1868. She then married John Allan shortly after moving to Utah. They had five children. There names are Agnes Allan, Elizabeth Allan, Annie Jane Allan, Florence Allan, and John Allan. They lived in Colorado, then moved to Fort Montezuma (now Montezuma Creek) on the San Juan River, at the time or shortly after its establishment in 1879. They lived there until a flood destroyed their home in 1884, after which they moved to Bluff. Jane Allan was known to have operated a bed-and-breakfast. In the fall of 1890 her two youngest children died of diphtheria, one being John, her only son. Jane Allan died in May of 1915 (Lyman).
