Kumen Jones' Family
Kumen Jones was born May 5, 1856, at Cedar City, Iron County, Utah. He was blessed July, 1856 and baptized into the Mormon Church by Richard R. Birkbeck in May of 1864. Elder David H. Cannon ordained him an elder in St. George on December 18, 1878. On September 2, 1880, he was ordained a high priest by Erastus Snow. He was set apart as second counselor to Bishop Jens Nielson September 2, 1880, then as first counselor to Bishop Jens Nielson February 26, 1882. Later he was set apart as first counselor to Bishop Lemuel H. Redd. He was ordained a patriarch on May 21, 1908, by Apostle George Albert Smith. On November 13, 1910, Kumen was ordained a bishop of Bluff Ward by Apostle George F. Richards at Moab, Utah. Kumen resigned in December of 1920 after being in the bishopric of Bluff for forty years(Jones n.d. 213-214).
Kumen married Mary Nielson (daughter of Jens and Elsie Nielson), December 19, 1878, at the St. George Temple.

Mary and Kumen had two children. Leonard K. Jones was born November 6, 1889, and died July 25, 1931. Mary N. Jones, whose birth date was not found, died February 28, 1933.
Kumen later married Lydia May Lyman at the St. George Temple on December 2, 1882.

Kumen's second wife was born May 1, 1864, and died April 17, 1906. Kumen's first wife outlived the second wife. She was born October 3, 1860, and died February 28, 1933 (Jones n.d.).
